The Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) III approved the preparation of an action plan to make public tertiary education accessible to hearing-impaired students of Central Luzon. This action plan will help hearing-impaired students pursue a college degree. Problems such as limited access to colleges/universities, absence of programs for the hearing-impaired in SUCs, limited number of sign language interpreters/teachers, and social isolation of hearing-impaired students will be addressed in the Plan.
The RGADC TWG on GAD issues in coordination with selected SUCs will lead the implementation of this initiative. The undertaking is consistent with the goal of promoting inclusive growth and ensuring that no one is left behind in development.
The Action Plan for the hearing impaired was among the topics discussed during the First Quarter Meeting of the RGADC on March 1, 2022. Other topics discussed were the RGADC III Women’s Month celebration program and presentation of GAD best practices.
RGADC III Chairperson and CHED Regional Director Leonida Sigua-Calagui presided over the meeting. About 100 participants comprising directors/heads of office of regional line agencies and local government units, state universities and colleges, and private sector representative attended the meeting.
